The story of Jesus found in the gospels clearly shows that the religious leaders demanded of the Roman political system to crucify (death penalty) Jesus Christ. The death penalty could only be carried out by the political system because the Jewish church did not have any civil power at that time. Hence, the church appealed to the state to have Christ killed because he did not agree with them and/or they could not control Him. So, understanding which political entity was in power at the time of Christ is also important for end times understanding, so to know which entity will be requested by religious leaders to kill God’s people.
