The apostle John in writing about the commandments stated, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous”. (1 John 5:3) The commandments speaks to the fallen nature of men because it points out that something is wrong with humanity, due to what it ask of us, which is love to God and love humanity, which the unregenerate heart is incapable of rendering. The writings of Moses and the prophets are about love to God and love to our fellowmen. The person who want to quiet this testimony obviously testify that their actions are corrupts. We can quickly observe in life how oppressive society becomes when the testimony of the Bible is silenced. No one can truly love humanity without having a love for God (“I don’t need to serve God”, just be virtuous), and no one can truly love God without having a love for humanity (“I don’t need to treat others right”, just be spiritual). We see in both spectrums, people trying to do one or the other and failing miserable because they want to separate love to God and to man but it is no possible, just like faith and works cannot be separated.
Matthew22:35 Then one of them, [which was] a lawyer, asked [him a question], tempting him, and saying,
22:36Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?
22:37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38This is the first and great commandment.
22:39And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
22:40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
