Breaking the law of God causes oppression

In all societies around the world many are fearful of oppression which translates into loss of freedom and suffering. While this is going on, others are fighting for their freedom to partake of vices which were once illegal. The Bible tells a story of what the true root cause of loss of freedom is, which is sin. This simply happens because the individual who is consumed with any particular sin become willing to break any law to satisfy his/her desire. This reality often leads to kidnapping, oppression of the poor, war, thief, rape, murder, etc. God gave the Ten Commandments to protect us and instruct us as to how to conduct ourselves in ways that will secure the greatest possible freedom in society. Israel was given these rules so that they would not become an oppressive state like the nations around them. When you look at almost all the struggles for freedom globally, almost all of them are struggles against oppressive force used against the poor by a few covetous rich. Hence Paul states that the love of money is the root of all evil.

Deuteronomy 9:4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee 9:5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
