When we are young, we are instructed and trained by our parents and teachers how to live and conduct ourselves. When we become of age, we decide to live life the way we want to. Some of the lifestyle choices we practice are inherited from our parents via blood (DNA) and some we cultivate ourselves. Our habits and practices are primarily formed from inherited and self-cultivated tendencies. Some of those tendencies are good and some are bad. The teachings of the Bible calls to our attention the need to reflect on these choices and consider making better choices that will result in better outcomes. As adults we can rebuilt our experience into something brand new through the power granted us from the cross and the Word.
2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
